Source: published VARTA battery-finder fitment data (varta-automotive.com) for the Volvo XC60 II (246), consulted August 2026. The 315 mm 80 Ah 800 A battery on this car is a type 115, not a type 096. Type 096 is a shorter 278 mm case – the numbers on the old page were right but the group label was not. Where more than one battery is listed, the manufacturer fits different sizes across builds — measure the battery you remove, or confirm by registration, before ordering.

The 315 mm battery on this car is a type 115, not a type 096. Many XC60s also carry a separate 10 Ah support battery.

Two batteries: most XC60s have a main AGM starter battery and a separate 10 Ah support battery (150 x 87 x 130 mm) for the electrical system. Check which one has failed before ordering. The main battery is AGM – replace AGM with AGM.

Frequently Asked Questions

What battery does a Volvo XC60 need?

A type 115 AGM, 315 x 175 x 190 mm, at 80 Ah and 800 A. VARTA fitment data for the XC60 II (246) lists that battery as the recommendation for the T5, the B4 and B5 mild hybrids, the D5 AWD and the T6 and T8 hybrids, with a larger type 019 AGM at 95 Ah and 850 A (353 mm) offered as an alternative on most of them. Note that the 315 mm size is a type 115, not a type 096. Many XC60s also carry a separate 10 Ah support battery which is not the starter battery.

Does the Volvo XC60 need an AGM or EFB battery?

AGM. Every XC60 II fitment returned by VARTA is AGM and no EFB option appears. Replace AGM with AGM: the car is built around the AGM charge profile and an EFB or plain flooded battery will fail early. If your car has the separate 10 Ah support battery, that is a different unit and is replaced separately.

How long does a Volvo XC60 battery last?

Typically 4–6 years depending on driving patterns. Short urban journeys and cold winters reduce battery life. Start-stop systems are harder on batteries, so quality AGM batteries are essential.

Can I replace the Volvo XC60 battery myself?

Yes for most models — it’s usually located in the engine bay. However, start-stop vehicles may need the battery management system reset with a diagnostic tool after fitting.

How we check fitment for this guide

We cross-reference fitment figures against manufacturer specifications and OE-supplier catalogue data where available, and matched to the standard codes that actually govern fit — battery type/group sizes, wiper lengths and fitting types, bulb fitment codes, tyre size markings, and oil specifications. We work by make, model, year, engine, and build date, because a single model can take different parts across its life. Where the right part depends on your exact vehicle, we tell you to confirm by registration or VIN. More on our method →
